Behind the queens

The Four-Note OperaI’m looking forward to starting rehearsals with Opera Dioneo next week for the absurd and hilarious The Four-Note Opera by American minimalist composer Tom Johnson.

It’s based on Luigi Pirandello’s Six Characters In Search of an Author. But the most exciting thing is that our production involves fencing! My last fencing success came in the British Fencing regional qualifier round in Cardiff in 1999, where I triumphed in the Under 12 Girls Foil. However I think this was largely due to aggression, rather than skill.

Here’s the blurb:

Part absurdist, part minimalist, part satire and part simple comedy, DIONEO’s new production invites you to conspire in a “behind-the-queens” operatic exposé, to peer into the recesses of the singer’s mind, and to gasp – at what lies therein.

Look out for us at the Mumford Theatre in Cambridge on 1 and 2 November – tickets are £12.50 (£10 concessions, £5 student/child)
