Welsh National Opera – War and Peace

Later this year, Joanna joins Welsh National Opera for their production of Prokofiev’s War and Peace, directed by David Pountney and conducted by Tomáš Hanus. Performances begin in Cardiff in September, and tour throughout October and November to Birmingham, Oxford, Llandudno and Southampton.

Kurt Weill’s “Street Scene”

Joanna recently appeared as Jenny Hildebrand in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, directed by Alexandra Spencer-Jones and conducted by Robert Houssart. These will be her last performances before graduating from the Alexander Gibson Opera Studio this summer.

Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme

Joanna has been selected as a 2018 Britten-Pears young artist, and will be spending a week in Snape Maltings in October 2018 studying Wolf Lieder with Roger Vignoles, Susan Roberts and Richard Stokes in a series of public masterclasses and recital on 7 October.

Der Kaiser von Atlantis

This week the production of Viktor Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis opens at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, in which Joanna plays Der Trommler (the Drummer). Written in the Nazi concentration camp Terezin (Theresienstadt), Ullmann’s opera was banned and never performed there. Before Ullmann was transported to Auschwitz, where he died in 1944, he left …
